A Survey on Clinical Application of Nursing Diagnosis


Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the problems related to implementation of nursing diagnosis in clinical practice .
The data were obtained from 391 subjects who worked in university hospitals in Seoul using a fuestionnaire from October 18 to November 15, 1989, and analyzed by frequency and ANOVA.
1. Most of nurses (98.2%) had received education on nursing diagnosis, inservice education is the most effective education.
2. According to the situation of clinical application of nursing diagnosis, 23.5% of subjects usually used nursing diagnosis, 68.6% of subjects sometimes used nursing diagnosis and 63.9% of subjects expressed concern about nursing diagnosis.
3. The primary problem with the clinical application of nursing diagnosis was lack of manpower (mean : 4.304) : the least problem was that nursing diagnosis is not important in caring patients (mean : 2.308).
4. There was no significant difference between problems on clinical application of Nursing diagnosis and type of education of nursing diagnosis (P=.3662).
The majority of nurses who worked in the university hospitals agreed to necessity of nursing diagnosis. But clinical application of nursing diagnosis was limited to lack of manpower and time.
Strategies for improving clinical application of the nursing diagnosis are nursing educational, research and administrative supports.
